Itinerary
This tour begins and ends in Marrakech and includes one night in the Dades Gorges, one night in the Merzouga desert, and one night in Ouarzazate.
Day 1
Marrakech – High Atlas Mountains (Tizi`n Tichka) – Ait Ben Haddou – Ouarzazate – Skoura – Dades Gorges.
We depart from your accommodation in Marrakech at 8:30 AM, heading south across the High Atlas Mountains via the spectacular Tizi n'Tichka mountain pass (2,260m)—the highest in North Africa. We will visit the Kasbah of Ait Benhaddou, the oldest in Morocco and a UNESCO World Heritage Site; this location has served as the set for numerous films and series, including *Gladiator*, *Ali Baba*, *Lawrence of Arabia*, and *Game of Thrones*. After lunch, we head to the wonderful city of Ouarzazate (known as the "City of Cinema"), where we will stop to visit or take photos of the film studios. We will then travel along the "Route of a Thousand Kasbahs," stopping in the Valley of the Roses. Here, locals produce natural creams, soaps, and the famous rose water from their unique, highly fragrant rose harvests. Finally, we continue to the Dades Valley, where we will spend our first night. Accommodation is provided at a Kasbah-style hotel, with dinner and breakfast included.
Day 2
Dades – Todra Gorge – Touroug – Erfoud – Merzouga – Camel excursion – Camp.
After breakfast, we head to the Todra Valley and Gorges—featuring impressive vertical walls over 300 meters high that narrow with every step. We continue through the groves of the Tinjdad palm oasis and visit the town of Erfoud, renowned for its marble and fossil production (we can arrange a visit if you are interested). In the afternoon, we arrive at the stunning dunes of Merzouga (Erg Chebbi), where we swap our 4x4s for dromedaries—our "8x8" transport—to ride across the dunes to a secluded desert camp. There, weather permitting, you can admire the starry sky amidst the magical silence of the desert. To cap off this spectacular day, following dinner, we enjoy a "drum party"—an unforgettable night.
Day 3
Gnawa Music – Alnif – Agdz – Draa Valley – Ouarzazate.
We will wake up before sunrise to witness the beautiful desert dawn from atop the Great Dune. We will return to the camp for a delicious breakfast and/or a shower. After refreshing ourselves, we will stop in the village of Khamlia to relax with some tea while enjoying traditional spiritual Gnawa music (a genre with roots in Sudan, brought by enslaved people). Next, our journey takes us toward Tazzarine via Alnif—located in the heart of the Mader basin—and on to the magnificent Draa Valley, a region rich in date production and home to millions of palm trees. After a panoramic view of the valley, we will cross the Anti-Atlas mountains to finally arrive in Ouarzazate, where we will have dinner and breakfast at the Riad.
Day 4
Ouarzazate – High Atlas Mountains – Marrakech.
Today, we leave behind the colossal fortress of Ouarzazate and head toward Marrakech, crossing the Tizi n'Tichka mountain pass with stops for photos. We will leave the lunar landscape behind as it gives way to the characteristic, dominant shades of green and ochre. We will stop for lunch along the way whenever you wish; simply let us know, and we will find the best spot for it. Finally, we will arrive in Marrakech, hoping you have enjoyed the journey as much as we enjoyed planning it for you.
